About Futari wa Pretty Cure

Futari wa Pretty Cure (ふたりはプリキュア – futari wa purikyua) is a magical girl anime series aimed at young children, produced by Toei Animation and broadcast in Japan between February 1, 2004, and January 30, 2005. A direct sequel, Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, aired between February 6, 2005, and January 29, 2006.

The story follows two middle school students, Nagisa Misumi and Honoka Yukishiro, who meet fairy creatures from another world and are given the power to transform into the legendary warriors Pretty Cure (or Precure), in order to protect the world from Darkness.

Futari wa Pretty Cure was massively successful and kickstarted the Pretty Cure franchise which continues to this day. With only a handful of exceptions, each season of Pretty Cure features different locations and characters, and are only tied together through the name “Pretty Cure” and some recurring elements and themes.

Futari wa Pretty Cure received several official foreign language dubs and was broadcast on television in several countries, although not in the United States. An English language version was shown in Canada and the United Kingdom as “Pretty Cure”. It was also subtitled and reached a few streaming services including Crunchyroll – where you can watch it today in most regions.

About Me

Pike paid an absurd amount of money to go to school for fun things like “media and theatre” and “Japanese studies”. In retrospect she may not have been the brightest crayon in the box for choosing to do so, but at least she can pretend like she’s some sort of expert (dramatization: she’s really not) while she imports toys meant for six-year-old children and writes about magical girls.

When she is not busy playing video games or adding more and more pictures of Nagisa Misumi to her screenshot collection, Pike works in biotechnology, and tweets a lot.

About This Website

Alright, enough of the third person.

Originally this was meant to be a blog focused on the magical girl genre as a whole, and if you dig far enough back you can find a few posts focused on things that are not, in fact, related to Futari wa Pretty Cure (including one such post guest-written by my girlfriend!) But as it turns out, I really love Futari wa Pretty Cure. I really, really, really love Futari wa Pretty Cure. I loved it so much that I named this blog Dual Aurora Wave. Which ended up being a stroke of luck when I decided to retool the blog completely and dedicate it to my favorite anime in the world.

What is it about Futari wa Pretty Cure that makes me love it so much? Why is it not just my favorite season of Pretty Cure, but my favorite animated show of all time? I think it’s a combination of things. I love the characters, the design, the animation, and the way watching this show simply makes me happy. It is my hope that a site like this can help spread the word of this little show and maybe help some people see just how special it is.
